Joachim Frey elected new president of NRP 72

Joachim Frey, the new president of the Steering Committee of NRP 72, is well known for combining academic research and practice.

On 11 February 2020, the National Research Council of the SNSF elected Joachim Frey as president of the National Research Programme "Antimicrobial Resistance" (NRP 72). Joachim Frey is professor emeritus for veterinary bacteriology at the Vetsuisse faculty of the University of Bern. He succeeds Christoph Dehio, who has taken on a new role as director of the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) "AntiResist".

Joachim Frey has been a member of the Steering Committee of NRP 72 from the beginning. He has an excellent scientific track record in molecular pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance and extensive experience in providing consulting services to stakeholders in politics and administration. "Research on antibiotic resistance is very dedicated and much progress has been made," says Frey. "Now we need the same perseverance to make sure that this knowledge is used in the real world."
